Activities
The Barnyard and Te Anau provide the starting point to some of the most amazing sights and walking tracks in the world. Don't forget, you can visit Milford and Doubtful Sounds from your starting point of Te Anau. We'll be happy to give you the benefit of our experience when you want to book an excursion - we'll even book it for you. Ask for any discount rates at reception as some companies offer great deals in winter.
If you're a tramper, you'll aready know that Te Anau offers the jump off point for three of the "Great Walks". The links below will take you to the Department of Conservation (DOC) guides for them:
- The Kepler Track: Explore the Luxmore caves, walk across swing bridges, and cool off in the icy Iris Burn Falls. A loop track that starts and finishes in Te Anau makes for easy access and planning.
- The Routeburn Track: Walk to Key Summit to view a stunning alpine wetland and great views over Fiordland (you can walk Key Summit without committing to the Routeburn too!), and if you're lucky, talk to the Kea (alpine Parrots). A must do walk.
- The Milford Track is renowed as the 'finest walk in the world'. Take a short boat ride from Te Anau Downs and then splendour at the scenery. Amazing views.
